Checks Small lengthwise separations of wood, caused by rapidly evaporating moisture from the surface of the wood. Splits Lengthwise separation of wood running from one face to other. Caused by severe checking or pressure in the planer on a cupped board. Bow Is a deviation flatwise from a straight line drawn end to end. Measured at the point of greatest distance from the line. Crook Is a deviation edgewise from a straight line drawn end to end. Measured at the point of greatest distance from the line. Cup Is a deviation in the face from a straight line drawn edge to edge. Measured at the point of greatest distance from the line. Twist Is a deviation flatwise, or a combination of flatwise and edgewise in the form of a curl. Measured as the distance one edge of the piece is raised above a flat surface. | ||
