Horizontal Curve Sawing Gang Edger Gen. II - USNR:

Curve Sawing Gang Edger Gen. II

The USNR Newnes/McGehee curve sawing gang edger features the revolutionary skewing and slewing CNC saw module.

  • Shape, curve and straight sawing
  • Chip heads mounted ahead of saws to eliminate slabs
  • Accurate motion controllers and linear positioners ensure accurate curved solutions
  • Infeed & outfeed sections are static with heavy driven feed rolls providing stability
  • Available with single or double arbors
  • Slew & skew module rests on virtually frictionless cam rollers on hardened tracks
  • Slew travel can be increased to provide for additional banks of saws to allow different products to be sawn from varying thickness or quality of cants
  • Timber pockets, fixed or adjustable, between saw banks
  • Improved lumber recovery

The latest version, Gen. II, incorporates some new features such as pivoting anvils behind larger chip heads with driven rolls. This allows:

  • Greater chipping depth of cut
  • Shallower chipping scallops
  • Better control of the cant in the chipping/sawing zone
  • Ability to process shorter wood
  • Ability to both step in and out with the chip heads to generate short side boards

Scanner

High-resolution scanners (up to 3 scanners) simultaneously scan the cant as it is fed into the slew/skew gang edger. Cants can be fed to the scanner centering table from one or both sides. A Windows™ user interface allows easy product setup with 3-D graphics and a common look and feel shared by other USNR Newnes/McGehee Optimizers.

Curve Sawing optimization also uses edger and trimmer logic to enhance sawing decisions for higher recovery. Motion controllers are used to ensure accurate movement of sawbox components. The operator console, infomaster display, and Windows based Human Machine Interface (HMI) provide operators with easy-to-use controls to run the system.

Optimizer software allows bow in lumber from curved cants to be limited which prevents jam-ups in downstream equipment.
