Double Arbor  Horizontal Shape Sawing Gang Edger - USNR:

Double Arbor Horizontal Shape Sawing Gang Edger
The USNR Horizontal Shape Saw (HSS) system is the answer for accurate curve sawing cants up to 12” thick. Loaded with innovative features like a floating virtual-pivot sawbox and continuous sawing performance QC data feedback, this top quality double arbor system produces top quality product, all the time.

Features / Benefits
  • Clam shell openings provides unhindered access to the inside of the machine
  • Saw box floats on an air cushion for smooth operation with minimal wear
  • Virtual Pivot system means no pivot pin or cam rollers to wear out and replace
  • Conical chipper heads or optional 22" diameter drum-style chip heads can remove up to 6” of material for maximum flexibility
  • Positive cant hold-down and traction devices insures that the optimization solution is exactly what is sawn
  • Sawing performance is continually monitored via after-cut scanning device, providing real-time Quality Control data and helping to insure consistent lumber quality
  • System accommodates either transverse or linear scanning systems
  • Feed speeds up to 550 fpm are possible

Centering Infeed Scanner

High-resolution scanners (up to 3 scanners) simultaneously scan the cant as it is fed into the slew/skew gang edger. Cants can be fed to the scanner centering table from one or both sides. A Windows™ user interface allows easy product setup with 3-D graphics and a common look and feel shared by other USNR Newnes/McGehee Optimizers.

Curve Sawing optimization also uses edger and trimmer logic to enhance sawing decisions for higher recovery. Motion controllers are used to ensure accurate movement of sawbox components. The operator console, infomaster display, and Windows based Human Machine Interface (HMI) provide operators with easy-to-use controls to run the system.

Optimizer software allows bow in lumber from curved cants to be limited which prevents jam-ups in downstream equipment.

Shape Chipping Canter
  • Chipping heads mounted close to the saws
  • Chipping head frames move independently from the gang edger arbor frame
  • Saws articulate and translate to follow the curvature of the cant
  • Chipping heads with pivoting anvils, translate to follow curvature of cant
  • Compound sweep sawing capability
